Overview
This project was created as a part of a class I took called Story Telling in Design. We were tasked to write a story based on true events and display it through our medium of choice. I chose to do a storybook because I love illustrating and creating editorial/layout designs. Therefore, the story is both entirely written by me but also entirely designed and illustrated by me.
The book takes on a fun, whimsical, and sarcastic tone to a sort of crappy story of the time I absolutely shattered my ankle. Each spread features a funny illustration which aligns with its written content to break up the writing and highlight the tone of the story. Each illustration has a slightly different fun and bright colour palette which highlights them. I chose this type of layout as it compliments the tone of the story very well. My focus when creating the layout was to be unconventional but have a heavy focus on guiding the reader's eye, readability and understanding. With this goal in mind, I focused on a clear hierarchy of type, spacing, and contrast.

The front cover features the same fun colours and illustrations that will be featured in the storybook. I wanted to keep the front very ambiguous so the reader doesn't know exactly what to expect before reading it.
