My Role at WUSA (Waterloo Undergraduate Student Association)
Within the WUSA Marketing & Communications department I worked under the Creative Lead and our team is given projects from a variety of services, business, and clubs that fall under WUSA (which is a lot). Each club, service, and business has their own unique branding so I designed graphics to fit each unique brand. Design projects come in a variety of forms, but I am usually creating sets of social, web, & print graphics in a variety of sizes for large scale campaigns, events, and special offerings.
Student Services and Campaign Posters

WUSA Prize Pack Coupons
Designed to be both informative and fun, these coupons are part of WUSA's many intitiatives to give back to their students. When designing these coupons I took careful consideration to make sure the staff handling the coupons would easily understand the terms & conditions in a fast-paced environment.

We've got you covered campaign
A multiplatform campaign created to bring more awarness to the services provided through WUSA that are within students tuition. With posters plastered across campus and posts spread digitally we aim to bring more attention to how WUSA aids students and empower them to use the resources available.

Women's Centre Stickers
These stickers will be handed out at fairs and the WC (Women's Centre) office. They are designed to empower women and speak freely about the issues we face. Stuck to water bottles and laptops they can spread awarness across campus and help create a safe space at the WC.

Takeaways - What I’ve Learned
Don’t become TOO attached to your designs
Yes be proud of your designs but don’t get stuck and think you’ve made something perfect how can they change this. So many people are involved and have say in our designs (creatives, marketers, client) there can be A LOT of changes and feedback, sometimes it is hard to take but I will take a moment and understand it from their perspective - They know the brand and they know what is needed. We can all work together to create a design that represents everyones vision - thats my job. I can still bring my ideas and style but its all about working together.
Feedback Feedback Feedback, and i’ll say it again for the people in the back
Its some important to show others at preliminary stages before generating all the different sizes of the graphic, as this wastes time. But its also so important because people bring there own perspectives through feedback and will note things you didn't see or didn't know. This will allow you to create the best designs which incorporate diverse perspectives.
No one’s going to think you’re dumb - Don’t EVER be afraid to ask question
When i first start working anywhere I want to seem like I know everything and I don’t want people to think I’m dumb. Fun fact - you’re not dumb you just don’t know everything, but asking questions allows you to gain knowledge instead of making silly mistakes. Try to figure things out on your own first and use the resources you’ve been given but also don’t be afraid to double check, ask for clarification, and/or ask for help/guidance.
